Supreme Court Flags Fake Medical College in UP Operating From Dilapidated Farmhouse

The Supreme Court has flagged a suspected fake medical college operating from a dilapidated farmhouse in Etah, Uttar Pradesh. With alleged courses, police action and a UGC warning, the case raises concerns about unverified institutions.

India’s healthcare system faces another serious challenge as the Supreme Court has taken note of a suspected fake medical college operating from a dilapidated farmhouse in Uttar Pradesh’s Etah district, raising concerns about unverified institutions and potentially fake medical degrees.

According to reports, a tea seller was found serving as the chairman of the institution, which reportedly operated from a building comprising just two to three rooms. He was routinely signing documents handed over to him by other authorities, according to the reported details of the case.

A bench comprising Supreme Court Justices Ahsanuddin Amanullah and NV Anjaria directed the University Grants Commission (UGC) to warn the public, particularly students, against taking admission to institutes that have not established their authenticity. Live Law reported the court’s direction.

The suspected institution was allegedly offering courses including D Pharma, BSc Nursing and BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery), among others. The case has drawn attention to concerns surrounding institutions that may be operating without establishing their legitimacy and the qualifications they may be offering.
